Year 9 Young Archie Finalist

One of our Year 9 students, Ella Byass, has been announced as a Young Archie finalist for 2017. The Young Archie competition is open to children aged between 5 and 18 years old. Ella’s mother, Sophie, shares Ella’s success with us below.
“My daughter, Ella Byass, is one of the Young Archie Finalists for 2017 in the 13-15 age category. She was 14 when she painted the portrait in a workshop by Daniel Butterworth who was a finalist in the Archibald competition last year. The workshop was organised by her Folio Club Art teacher, Jennifer Barnett, who Ella has been going to for five years and who was a fabulous and knowledgeable teacher, so encouraging and enthusiastic.
Ella is still going to Folio Club on a Tuesday night, now being taught by Tim Jones who is bringing a different perspective to art which is as equally interesting and informative.”
You can see Ella’s work, a painting of her older brother, Harry, as well as the other finalists’ work, here.
Congratulations Ella, you should be very proud. Thank you Sophie and the Woodend Art Group for sharing Ella’s story with us.
Winners will be announced 16 September 2017, good luck Ella!
