WheelTalk Program by Disability Sport & Recreation
Yesterday, 12 September, our Year 9/10 Sport & Recreation and High Performance students were involved in an interactive program exploring diversity, acceptance, and disability,.
Peter from Disability Sport & Recreation spoke with the students about his personal and sporting journey, his involvement in wheelchair basketball and all the opportunities he has had since moving to Australia from Nigeria.
Following Peter’s presentation, the students were able to have a go at playing wheelchair basketball which, for a moment, allowed them to develop an understanding of what it is like to live with a physical disability. It also gave them an opportunity to learn more about the health resources available in the community and how accessible they are for different disability groups.
The interactive session was very informative for our students, as well as a whole lot of fun!
