Woodend Community Boomerang Bags, Community Initiative

One of our Middle School teachers, Mrs Juanita Sinclair has recently started a collaboration with Woodend Community Bags in an effort to make Woodend plastic-free in 2018.
The initiative sees bags made from donated, recycled materials (including pillow slips and other pieces of linen) made into fabric shopping totes that can be used in place of plastic shopping bags.
Students at the college have been joining Mrs Sinclair in making these bags which will be used in the Woodend Community as Boomerang Bags; the bags can be collected from supermarkets and reused over and over so that plastic bags are no longer needed. These will hopefully be seen distributed throughout Woodend and the wider Macedon Ranges community in the coming months.
Woodend Community Bags have recently run a poster competition and three of our Year 5 students were awarded prizes! Congratulations to Sophie Culpan, Will Chambers, and Daisy Turnbull; you can see their winning posters below!
Well done to Mrs Sinclair and all the students involved for contributing to such a great community cause!
If you are interested in supporting this community initiative, sew-your-own kits can be picked up at Woodend Library, or you can contact Mrs Sinclair at j.sinclair@braemar.vic.edu.au if you would like to contribute to the sewing or the fabric donations.
