Basketball Skills Clinic, Make A Difference Challenge

Last month, our Year 5 students were treated to a special guest visitor. Former NBL star player and coach, Warrick Giddey, came to the College and ran a two-hour basketball skills clinic.
The clinic was the result of an inspiring idea by a group of boys as a part of our Year 5’s Make a Difference Challenge (MAD Challenge). Noah, Lachlan, Noah, and Jack decided to do something about the lack of sport and sport promotion in the community. Originally, they had wanted to run a basketball clinic at another school for younger students so the boys contacted the NBL asking if they could donate some basketballs to help them run the clinic. The NBL replied to the boys, letting them know that unfortunately they didn’t have any balls they could donate, but they would be able to arrange for Warrick Giddey to run some workshops. Ms Kelly Smith helped Noah, Lachlan, Noah, and Jack to prepare the clinic with Warrick before he joined them at the College on Monday, 28 August.
The clinic was a great success and all the students involved had a great time. The students participated in ball-handling and shooting drills. The boys were very happy with the outcome of their idea and, following the clinic, hope that they have taken a step toward providing more sport for everyone in the community.
