Harry Willen's cycling success

One of our Year 7 students, Harry Willen, has recently competed in a number of cycling competitions with great success. Harry took part in a five part series, the RACV Victorian Junior Road Series, of which he completed four of the five races (Harry wasn’t able to ride in the first race of the series in Mount Bulla as he had an Individual Time Trial in Geelong on that same weekend). Harry finished the series in a very impressive fourth place against some of the best riders in the state (had he completed all five races, he would have finished in third place).
The RACV Victorian Junior Road Series took place all over Victoria with locations including Leongatha, Ararat, Mornington, Bendigo, and Harcourt. Each part of the series lasted two days, with a time trial and a road race on the Saturday and another road race on the Sunday. Each individual time trial was 10kms long, with the road races varying between 26 and 35kms.
This particular series was a junior tour with riders from all over Victoria as well as a number from interstate; all the best junior cyclists were present. Harry was one of the youngest riders in the series at only 12 years old and racing in the Under 15s division.
Congratulations to Harry on an outstanding sporting achievement.

Another series, the 2017 Victorian Schools Cycling Championships (VSCC), has just begun and Harry, along with his sister Pippa (Year 5), are representing Braemar College. The next race in this series is this Thursday, 31 August, in Bendigo. Good luck to Harry and Pippa for each of the four remaining races in this series!
Harry cycles most weekdays and competes very regularly in both road races and track cycling. He will be competing in the National Junior Track Series later in the year (beginning in October) where he will be competing with the best junior cyclists from all over Australia.
We are very proud of Harry’s exceptional sportsmanship and we look forward to following his success throughout the year.
