NAIDOC Week 2021

This week we celebrate NAIDOC Week across Australia (July 4-11), a time to reflect upon the importance of recognising, celebrating, and becoming thoughtfully educated on the history and culture of our nation’s indigenous peoples.

The week is a great opportunity to get involved in events, increase your knowledge, show your support, and take part in celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Each year, NAIDOC Week has a theme; this year the theme is ‘Heal our Country!’. The theme is a call for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.

There is a special Zoom Webinar available through the NAIDOC website called ‘Embracing our Country’, which is taking place on Thursday 15 July.
The webinar hears from Professor Shane Hearn, as he explores his personal interpretation of country (family, kin, law, lore, ceremony, traditions, and language) – remembering the past, acknowledging the present, and realising the path forward to healing. Click here to find out more and register for this special ZOOM webinar.

The photos below are from one of our cultural immersion trips where Year 9 students visit Central Australia and stay in the Lilla community. Our association and friendship with the community is one we are very proud of; our students have been taking part in community service efforts and learning from local community members for over a decade.
