Middle School Refugee Excursion

Last week our students had the opportunity to go on a very unique and rewarding excursion; they travelled to Riddells Creek where they could meet and play with some refugee children. The visit was organised by women from the Broadmeadows Women’s Community Health program (BWCH), a program supported by Anglicare Victoria, which offers support to refugee women and their children.

Each year, the Anglican parish of Gisborne invites the BWCH to come for a picnic day and this year it was hosted by Riddells Creek. The day out always receives a great response, with a bus full of women and their children visiting the area and have a great day.

This year, we were honoured that the College was invited to provide activities for a group of pre-school aged, refugee children. The students and children had a wonderful time, and the activities were well considered for the needs of the group.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact and play with the group, creating links with children form disadvantaged world areas. The Middle School theme for this term is ‘helping others’; that has truly been exemplified on this excursion.
