Amazing community spirit, even in crisis…

The below are two stories that were shared with us about two of our amazing students, Ella Heywood (Year 6)and Dashiel Fenwick (Year 8).

In August 2017, when Ella was in only Grade 3, she supported the Cancer Council’s ‘Wigs for Kids’ initiative, donating 34cm of her hair and raising over $2,000!

This year, Ella decided she would like to donate her hair again. COVID-19 sadly quashed Ella’s fundraising plans as many people faced financial hardship and instability. However, her spirit and determination to make a difference remained strong. Ella managed to squeeze in to the hairdressers (Sereniti) at 6pm on the last Saturday evening just before they had to close their doors as part of the COVID restrictions.

After the big trim, Ella donated 30cm of hair to Wigs for Kids, bringing her total donation to over 65cm! Once the COVID-19 restrictions have been relaxed, Ella plans to visit the wig maker in Keilor East that supports Wigs for Kids.

Well done to Ella on such a fantastic act of kindness, support, and community spirit; thinking of ways – especially those non-financial – to support others, despite the tough time that is affecting us all. We love the new hairstyle!

Another one of our students had a pretty significant haircut recently too – significant in terms of appearance and community impact! Year 8 student, Dash, took part in the World’s Greatest Shave this year.

Previously donning long locks, Dash opted for the full shave option of the fundraiser (as opposed to cutting or colouring). And the best part? Dash set himself a $1,000 fundraising goal, which he achieved! This is an amazing effort, and a donation that will make a world of difference.

Check out Ella’s transformations below and visit our College Facebook to see a video of Dash’s shave.
