TONIGHT: Parent Webinar with Paul Dillon

Join us this evening for an evening with Paul Dillon exploring the topic ‘Risk taking’ – why do teens do the things they do? What can parents do to keep them as safe as possible?

Paul is the Director and Founder of DARTA, Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia, and is passionate about ensuring that the community has access to accurate and up-to-date alcohol and other drug information.

This online event is the final Parent/Guardian seminar in the College’s four-part series for 2022 and will look at why adolescence is a risky time.

As a teen matures and becomes more independent, they experience dramatic hormonal changes, increasing social and peer pressure and have greater access to alcohol and other drugs.

In his presentation, Paul will:

  • Briefly examine the history of ‘teenagers’, rebellion and the different ‘temptations’ that have existed over time.
  • Use the latest research on the developing brain to discuss why young people make the decisions they do during this time.
  • Provide some practical strategies and tips for parents considering allowing their teen to attend sleepovers, parties and gatherings, that provide teens with valuable opportunities to develop important socialising skills but are not ‘risk-free’, to help ensure they are as safe as possible.

Date: Wednesday 26th October 2022
Time: 7pm – 8:30pm
