Tokai Teachers’ Visit

Last week we hosted four teachers from Tokai in Japan on a cultural and education exchange as part of our ongoing relationship with Tokai city.

The teachers arrived very nervous but soon relaxed as they were warmly welcomed by staff and students at the College. Throughout their three-day visit, they had the opportunity to observe classes on both campuses and taught a class to our Middle School students. We learned so much from our guests as they taught us about bathing rituals (with our students even getting the chance to experience a relaxing foot bath), karate, the world of anime, Japanese idols (while dancing with glow sticks), and tea-making and the many different types of tea traditionally enjoyed in Japan.

Our students and staff enjoyed all these experiences immensely. It was such a fun and engaging way to learn about another culture and it was really great to see our students asking lots of questions. Our students performed a learned dance for our visitors; the teachers were very impressed! Each year that the Tokai teachers visit is a wonderful cultural opportunity for everyone involved and we look forward to continuing our ongoing relationship with Tokai well into the future.

The Tokai teachers also met with the Year 8 students who will be heading off to Japan on their cultural tour in approximately six weeks. This was a great opportunity for these students to ask plenty of questions and feel prepared before leaving on their adventures.
