A visit from the Mayor

Last week our Year 5 & 6 students were treated to a visit from the Mayor of the Macedon Ranges Shire Council, Cr Janet Pearce.

Janet spoke to the students about the role of the local council, the services they fund, and how students can get involved and have their say. She also surveyed them on what they think the council should be spending their budget on.

Did you know that there are 48,000 people living in the Macedon Ranges? And that the council has a budget of 68 million dollars to spend each year?

Our students had a chance to ask questions as well – they asked about playgrounds, skateparks, roads, animal welfare, local sporting facilities, public transport, bike paths, and development. It was great to see our students taking the opportunity to ask such insightful and thoughtful questions!
