Festival Bahasa dan Budaya Indonesia

Our Indonesian students recently travelled to the Sidney Myer Asia Centre at Melbourne University to explore the Festival Bahasa dan Budaya Indonesia (aka the Festival of Indonesian Language and Culture).

All up we had 23 students on the trip, predominantly our Year 9 and 10 Indonesian students, as well a few from Year 8. Our students were able to experience the Indonesian culture by participating in activities and exploring all the information the event had to offer.

Some of the activities that were explored on the day included Indonesian Dance; Pencak Silat, a martial art which is a fusion of performance and sport that was used in Star Wars: The Force Awakens; playing the Angklung, an Indonesian musical instrument; and learning about shadow puppet theatre, Wayang Kulit.

The students also heard from a guest speaker panel about how learning Indonesian can be useful for their future, and they had the chance to meet some uni students who are studying at the University, and practise their Indonesian with them.

Our students had a great day being immersed into the Indonesian culture, all without leaving the country!
