eSmart Week

This week has been National eSmart Week!

Our school has registered to take part in eSmart Week, an initiative of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation that is all about building supportive and connected social environments both on and offline.

At the start of this year, who would have thought that we would have spent so much of the year in remote learning, spending more time online than ever before? Our school community has done an amazing job at adapting throughout this year.

This year’s National eSmart Week theme is ‘Connecting Safely’. Throughout this week (Sunday 6 – Saturday 12 September), we have been celebrating the work schools around the country have done to connect safely, and sharing great resources for families from the eSafety Commissioner.

In the meantime, we’d like to thank you our community for all that you have done to ensure that our school has kept Connecting Safely in 2020!

One of our Year 7 students, Gemma Williamson, is a very good artist and recently drew this great picture that reflects how we are all feeling in staying safely connected this year.

Throughout this week, we have been sharing updates to our College social media platforms with tips and resources. We’ve included each of these pieces below for your reference.

  • Did you know…?
Our Year 5 students are currently undertaking their ‘eSmart digital licence’, and in 2021 all Year 5 and Year 7 students will complete this program, ensuring that all students entering in these years have the opportunity to access this online safety program.
According to research conducted by national children’s charity, Alannah & Madeline Foundation, one in five young Australians have reported being cyberbullied. Being at the forefront of keeping kids safe online, the Alannah & Madeline Foundation has developed the eSmart Digital Licence education program with support from Google.
The eSmart Digital Licence is an online safety education program that teaches school-aged children how to play, learn, and socialise safely in the digital world. The program consists of eight modules and, when all topics are completed, the user receives an eSmart Digital Licence in recognition of being equipped with the skills to help them explore the online world safely.
Designed with cyber safety experts, teachers, and industry leaders in education and technology, the eSmart Digital Licence is Australia’s #1 selling online safety education program, and we are thrilled to be able to share this with our young people.
