Creative Writing Competition – Stories for Strange Times

Throughout Term 2, during the remote learning period, we took part in a creative writing competition. Students were invited to submit short stories on the topic of ‘Stories for Strange Times’.

While the theme did inspire students to think of the current situation around COVID-19 and the remote learning period, there was no requirement for them to write about this period. Instead, it was a chance to use their imagination and find some escapism through creative writing.

We were thrilled to receive a wide range of different stories – including a story from a dog’s perspective, one about mutant frogs, of French potatoes sitting in corners, of fantasy worlds, haunted houses, and more!

The Grade 5/6 division was judged internally, while the 7/8 and 9/10 versions of the competition were judged externally. Congratulations to our Year 6 winners, Annabelle BlumeLiam Harrison, and Ella Heywood. Click the links below to read the winning pieces from these students.

Isabella Schilling and Xavier Colborne also received special mention certificates for ‘writing craft’.

Thank you to all the students who took part and submitted pieces for the competition; it was a wonderful showcase of your talents, hard work, and imagination!
