An amazing feat by Ms Gregory!

In the week before this latest lockdown, one of our wonderful teachers, Ms Gregory, took part in the Melbourne Coastrek 2021.

Melbourne Coastrek is a hiking challenge across Australia, specifically for women. The route in Victoria ventures from Cape Schanck to Point Nepean – so it’s not only a challenging trek, but filled with some glorious natural landscapes! Thousands of women get involved, creating teams of four and trekking the course to raise important funds, and increasing awareness, for Beyond Blue.

Ms Gregory completed the 30km trek with her team and completed it in 7.5 hours. She said it took longer than anticipated simply because there were so many people participating this year – what a great reason to be held up!

“Our team spent a few weeks training which really helped because with that much walking you start to feel muscles you didn’t know you had!” she told us. Adding that “the whole process – training, fundraising and the actual walk – helped not only to raise conversations about mental health but to provide an amazing opportunity to get out into nature, do physical exercise, and connect with friends. All great things to improve our wellbeing!”

By taking part in Coastrek, Ms Gregory and her team raised funds by way of sponsorship to support Beyond Blue. Beyond Blue is an independent, not-for-profit organisation working to reduce the impact of anxiety and depression and prevent suicide.

The fundraising ‘tally day’ for this event has already passed – with the final tally incredibly surpassing their $2,500,000 goal! – however, the portal is still open for a little while longer if you would like to donate.
