Congratulations to our Young Archie Finalist!

One of our talented Year 8 students, Olivia Wright, has been recognised as a finalist in the 2019 Young Archie competition. Astonishingly, this is the second year in a row that Olivia has been a finalist, which is a remarkable achievement.

Her work ‘My Brother’ is a finalist in the 13-15 Year Old category. Olivia explained her painting, ‘I chose to paint Oliver, my little brother, because he is a huge part of my family and my life. He’s two now and he’s always ready to help with anything, even at times that we don’t need his help. He always has a big bright smile, but I like this portrait as it shows a serious moment, which is quite rare.’

The College and the local area have a history of having students represented in the Young Archie competition, with Ella Byass (Year 11, 2019) listed as a finalist in 2017 (coincidentally with a painting of her brother, as well).

This year, there were over 2,100 entries into the Young Archie competition (across all four categories). Olivia’s piece, along with the other top ten finalists from each category, are on display at the Art Gallery of NSW. The winning pieces will be announced on August 10; we wish Olivia the best of luck and congratulate her again on such a wonderful achievement.
